Description
Karl Malmvall basically grew up in the Huskvarna furniture factory of Karl Andersson & Söner – a firm started by his grandfather and for which his own father designed furniture – so it’s no wonder that he became a furniture designer. Throughout his career, he’s developed an interest in the practical details of design that some others in his field lack, creating pieces that not only work well but also lend themselves to efficient manufacture and distribution. This interest recurs in his fascination with folding chairs, one of the most practically oriented of all furniture designs. His Step Ladder (2009), while supremely functional, is sleek enough that it needn’t be hidden away in the closet when not in use. It’s earned accolades from Elle Decoration and Wallpaper and even been featured on Oprah Winfrey’s wish list. Folds to just two inches thick for easy storage. Includes a small hook for hanging. Made in Thailand.
